Local Area
The “Nova Foresta” or New Forest as it’s commonly known, was set aside as a royal hunting ground in 1079 by William the Conqueror. Today, he would probably still recognise much of the forest as the same place he hunted all those centuries ago with the landscape and many traditions unchanged since medieval times.

Now, having achieved National Park status in 2005, it is a wonderful area to explore on foot, horseback or bicycle. The undisturbed scenery is home to enchanting forests; wild heathland; a wealth of bird, animal and plant life and of course, the famous New Forest ponies which are free to roam and graze the lawns of the forest at will.
