Planting for the Future – Our Partnership with RACE

Here at Red Shoot Camping Park, nestled in the heart of the beautiful New Forest, we’re incredibly proud of the natural environment that surrounds us. The towering trees, native hedgerows and thriving wildlife are what make this place so special — not just for us, but for every guest who comes to stay.

That’s why we’re delighted to share more about our partner company, Abacus Vehicle Hire, and our joint effort of inspiring commitment to planting and nurturing trees through their ongoing support of Ringwood Actions for Climate Emergency (RACE).

A £1,000-a-Month Commitment to Trees

Abacus has pledged £1,000 every month to support local tree-planting and conservation projects. All donations go directly to RACE and are used for:

  • Native hedging plants (£2–£3 each)

  • Fruit trees (£40–£60 each)

  • Larger specimen trees (£270–£340 each)

  • Protection materials such as guards, stakes, canes and mulch

  • Essential nurturing during the first two years of growth

This long-term investment ensures that every tree planted has the best possible chance to thrive.

🌱 Our Journey So Far

Since 2021, Abacus — with the continued support of their customers — has helped fund the planting of over 7,700 trees. This includes:

  • 7,420 native hedging plants

  • 212 fruit trees

  • 62 large specimen trees

We’re pleased to share that thanks to careful planting and protection, only one large tree has failed to establish — a fantastic success rate. Planting projects are continuing into 2026 and beyond, including new trees scheduled for planting at Carvers Recreation Ground later this year.

Why Planting Trees Matters

Living and working in the New Forest, we see every day just how important trees are — not only for their beauty, but for their vital role in protecting our planet.

Cleaner Air

Trees absorb harmful pollutants such as nitrogen oxides, ozone and carbon monoxide, while releasing clean oxygen. They also act as powerful carbon sinks, helping to offset emissions and combat climate change.

Natural Flood Protection

Tree roots stabilise soil, reduce erosion and help prevent flooding by absorbing and slowing rainwater. A mature evergreen tree can intercept more than 15,000 litres of water each year.

Supporting Biodiversity

A single tree can provide a home for hundreds of species — from insects and fungi to birds and mammals. Healthy woodland ecosystems are essential for wildlife to flourish.

How You Can Help

As a guest at Red Shoot Camping Park, you can also be part of this positive change.

When booking with us, simply select “Plant a Tree” during the booking process. Every £2 donated goes directly towards planting and maintaining trees through RACE. You can donate up to a maximum of 10 trees!

It’s a small action that makes a lasting difference — for our local community, for the New Forest, and for future generations who will enjoy it just as we do today.

Protecting the landscape we all love is something we care deeply about at Red Shoot. We’re proud to stand alongside Abacus in supporting meaningful, community-focused environmental projects — and we thank you for helping us keep the New Forest thriving for years to come. 🌿
